Coventry comedian Guz Khan, star of ‘Man Like Mobeen’ has donated £2,500 to his local University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity, and has urged others to give what they can.

They money will go straight to UHCW's charity which has been working hard to create care packages for its staff.

Guz has taken to his social media to spread the message of staying in to save lives, even changing his Twitter name to 'stay in your bludclart house' - and urging others to give to local organisations that are supporting frontline staff.

In a post on Twitter he said: "I don’t ever ask you to donate to anything. But COVENTRY please I’m asking only those of you who can stretch the pennies to please do so as well. Our frontline staff @UHCWCharity need our help whilst they risk their lives saving ours."

In a further post, he went on to say: "At the moment @UHCWCharity are being given donations from local supermarkets to make vital care packages for our NHS staff who are working crazy shifts and can’t get to the shops.

"Single parents, staff who are sick themselves, fight on the front line whilst we stockpile bog roll. But these supermarkets will run out of patience soon, and then how will our NHS staff in Coventry have the basic amenities to stay healthy themselves? If you’re Muslim in Cov this is your duty, to care for those doing the most honourable work.

"All of us, together."

The #CovTogether campaign in response to the coronavirus pandemic

The call has come at a time when we as a city are pulling together to direct support to those who need it. CoventryLive and the Coventry Telegraph have launched #CovTogether campaign - a chance to honour these fantastic people and raise money for a fighting fund to help communities and residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

Like Guz, you can donate directly to the UHCW Charity funding page by calling 02476 966913 or visiting www.uhcwcharity.org.

CoventryLive is also backing the Coronavirus Resilience Fund, which can quickly get money out to key charities and causes in the city. The fund will be available to constituted groups who are providing services such as food banks, social eating projects, emergency food parcel deliveries and those engaging in outreach activities.

You can find out more on how to donate to that here and if you want the money to be spent in Coventry, all you need to do is use the code COV , or you can email info@heartofenglandcf.co.uk.

Guz often uses his platform as a voice for Cov causes. Just last week he held a live stream with comedian Riz Ahmed and US comedian and talkshow host Hasan Minaj to discuss the impact of staying in, and what you can do to help your local community.

'Our 9,000 amazing UHCW NHS Trust staff do a fantastic job.'

If you do donate to the NHS UHCW fund, the money raised will fund extra facilities to help University Hospital deal with the increased demand on services, as patient numbers rise and will assist with the health and well-being of NHS staff.

The Superhero Care Boxes include snacks and drinks for staff working long shifts to boost energy and morale, whilst the campaign will also fund extra items and facilities for the hospital’s busiest wards including the Respiratory, Medical Decisions, Critical Care, Care for the Elderly wards as well as the Accident & Emergency department and the Children’s A&E department.

Jo O’Sullivan, Head of UHCW Charity said: “Guz’s generosity is fantastic and I want to say a massive thank you for this donation and for making folks aware of how they can join him in supporting our NHS SuperHeroes who are working long hours to take care of those we love – their patients and their families.

"Our 9,000 amazing UHCW NHS Trust staff do a fantastic job. Some of our own staff are currently ill and unable to work, or are in isolation due to their own health conditions, so our remaining staff are working extra hours and more shifts to look after our loved ones. On their behalf, thank you for your support, it means such a lot.”
