To those who live in Coventry it’s no secret that the Coventry Transport Museum is a great day out. But it’s even getting noticed further afield as it was just ranked one of the top free things to do for kids in the country.

The list, compiled by Cashfloat and based on Tripadvisor data, ranked the Coventry Transport Museum as fourth in top free days out for kids and families. And another Coventry attraction, the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, also made the list, coming in 26th place.

It will be welcome news for parents as they try to keep the children entertained over the summer holidays, particularly with bad weather and near-constant rain driving everyone indoors. Right at the top of the list came the Big Pit National Coal Museum in Torfaen, while the rest of the top five included the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum, The Wallace Collection in London and the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

According to Unicef more than two million families are struggling financially in the UK, with a third of parents worried about the cost of activities to keep their children entertained in the summer holidays. Three out of every four (75%) of reviewers who visited Coventry Transport Museum ranked their experience five star.

There are an array of interactive exhibits related to transport and children can climb aboard some of the vehicles. There’s even a 4D simulator.

The Herbert, which came in 24th place overall, is currently home to Dippy the Diplodocus cast, which has drawn visitors from far and wide, but there are also fascinating exhibitions on art, history and culture, all especially curated to be informative and accessible to young audiences. Just under two thirds (60%) of reviewers rated their visit five star.
