Coventry City head to Hull for Friday night football under the lights as the Championship programme resumes after the first of the season’s international breaks (Kick-off 7.45pm).

The Sky Blues travel in search of their second win of the 2023/24 schedule, having picked up six points from their opening five games to date to leave them sitting in 14th place in the table.

Hull, in contrast, have had a hugely encouraging start and sit pretty in sixth place after three wins, one draw and one defeat – their latest success coming in the form of a confidence boosting 1-0 win at promotion favourites Leicester City.

The game was switched to Friday night due to the Tigers sharing the MKM Stadium with rugby league side Hull FC, who have a scheduled game on Saturday. The football club take priority in terms of first use of the pitch and therefore opted to re-schedule to the Friday.

Team news

Coventry are boosted by the news that Jay Dasilva and Milan van Ewijk have a clean bill of health after leaving the field against Watford with ankle and hamstring issues. The big uncertainty, however, is over the availability of Jamaican duo Joel Latibeaudiere and Kasey Palmer due to the fact that they only returned to the UK on Thursday morning. Robins will assess the pair on Friday to see if they’re fully fit or feeling the effects of jet-lag before he decides if they can play.

Is the game on TV?

The game isn’t televised domestically after being omitted from Sky Sports’ August selections. It’s also not available on iFollow.

What Mark Robins has said

“Liam’s (Rosenior) done brilliantly well both at Derby and now at Hull. There are a lot of similarities to the way Brighton play and similar in their movements to Man City, and he’s obviously a student of the game who likes the games to be played in a certain way.

“They will try and boss the game in terms of possession. They’ll try and put our players into positions that make it difficult for you to get out and when you go after them you know they’ve got players there that can hurt you, that are looking confident and have got the ability to move the ball.”

What has the opposition manager Liam Rosenior said

Hull City’s head coach Liam Rosenior has called on the club’s supporters to bring the noise when the in-form Tigers return from the international break on Friday night.

“There’s a real, good positive environment, a real positive atmosphere surrounding the club.

“Our home form, I think we’ve lost one in the last 14 or 15 games so we’re on the right track. That’s not coincidental since the fans have been coming back in.

“I keep saying how important having a full house, how important having a vocal backing is so important to us on the pitch - the stadium has got to be a fortress for us this season. We’ve got to have teams coming here thinking ‘this is going to be a tough one today’ and the fans have a massive, massive part to play in that.”
