Mark Robins was delighted with the contribution from Jamie Allen who made a welcome return to Coventry City’s starting line-up for the first time this season following his summer health scare.

The high energy midfielder has been sorely missed in the middle of the park in the wake of Gus Hamer’s departure and Ben Sheaf’s early season injury, but made a significant contribution at QPR after being eased back into the side with two cameo showings from the bench in recent weeks.

Asked what pleased him most about the player’s energy, tactical awareness and ability to help move ball up pitch quickly, the Sky Blues boss said: “Yes, all of those things. He’s got really good quality as well and he can see things. And likewise, the quality that Josh Eccles has got as well and Kels (Liam Kelly) being in that position then to allow them to move where they need to go during games, and make sure that things are more solid for us, which is really important.

“Previously we have emptied the midfield with one or both having gone and then you’re in trouble and end up having to defend with your lives.”

Allen missed the entire pre-season after being hospitalised with a heart scare in June but looked back to his best at Loftus Road where he got through 79 minutes, including setting up Ellis Simms' second goal, before making way for Yasin Ayari.
