Coventry Rugby is gearing up to celebrate its 150th season. The club is holding a launch event next week that will outline the celebrations taking place throughout the season.

The launch event will be held at the Butts Park Arena on Thursday, September 7 at 7.30pm. It is open to members, former players, supporters, sponsors and anyone who wants to know more about the club.

Chairman Jon Sharp will kick off the event with a welcome address outlining the club's turnaround over the last 13 years. He will then talk about how the 150th anniversary is integral to building a sustainable future for the club.

Mr Sharp said: “We are thrilled to be launching our 150 th season as this achievement places us among a small elite group of high-profile English rugby clubs. Lots of time and effort has gone into making this a really memorable season for everyone connected with Cov and we hope the city and wider community really get behind us.

“Those present at the launch will be the first to hear exciting news about high-profile rugby matches, off-field events and some superb merchandise which will commemorate the club’s first 150 years and help pave the way to a sustainable and successful future.”

Former England full back and club president Peter Rossborough will then discuss the historical significance of the milestone. Mr Rossborough played 368 times for his hometown club between 1967 and 1982.

The schedule of celebrations will be shared at the end of the night by the club's chief executive Nick Johnston. He will also provide details of the 150th-anniversary memorabilia on offer.
