A Warm Home Discount update has been issued as payments could be made within days. Those who are eligible have been issued with a reminder about when they can expect the DWP cash boost.

Through the scheme, £150 will be taken off the energy bills of certain pensioners and low-income households. It is designed to help them with their payments during the season when energy use rises, reports DerbyLive.

Some may even start to notice the savings as the discount should be applied at some stage between October and March. But the £150 is not paid directly into bank accounts, but instead added as credit to gas or electricity accounts.

To be eliglible, people must either receive the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit. Alternatively, they must be on other benefits such as the Savings Credit portion of Pension Credit, Universal Credit or Housing Benefit for those who have high energy costs.

Age UK says on its website: "The Warm Home Discount is a one-off payment to reduce certain customers' energy bills over the winter months. If your electricity supplier is part of the Warm Home Discount scheme, then you'll get the payment automatically if you or your partner receive the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit.

"One of you must be named on your bill. Alternatively, if you're in receipt of another 'qualifying benefit' and are considered to have high energy costs, then you'll also receive an automatic payment. Either way, you should receive the discount automatically if you're eligible, so you don't need to apply for it.
