A gang brandishing knives were involved in a 'frightening' disorder near a McDonald's in Coventry city centre. West Midlands Police say that up to eight people were involved in the incident near McDonalds in Cross Cheaping.

Knives were brandished during the incident, which happened at around 3.45pm on Boxing Day. While investigating officers say that they did not receive any reports of anyone being injured, they say the situation could have been worse.

They are now appealing for any witnesses in the area to come forward to help them identify the suspects.

"We're unaware of anyone being injured, but they easily could have been, and it would have been intimidating and frightening for others to see," said a West Midlands Police spokesman. "We know there were people in the area at the time who may have information which could assist our investigation."

As part of the investigation, a 14-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of affray and released under investigation. Anyone who has any information should contact police via the Live Chat on the website and quote incident 20/1048452/22.
