A Coventry attraction dating back almost 2000 years is preparing to host a legion of visitors in a two-day festival inspired by real Roman history. The Lunt Roman Festival will give visitors of all ages the chance to explore the fascinating history of the Lunt Roman Fort.

They will be able to get stuck into hands-on battle drills and exploring the living history Roman village. There will also be history reenactments and Roman-inspired goods for sale, and visitors will be able to explore all aspects of the unique reconstructed monument.

Sights include the ramparts, the granary building and the only known Gyrus – large circular structure suspected to be a cavalry training area – inside a Roman fort in the UK. The event will take place on August 26 and 27.

Refreshments will be available from local food vendors, with an early years takeover area to keep younger visitors entertained. Before then, the fort will continue to host its usual summer activities, including arts and crafts and games all inspired by Roman history.

Lisa Ford, head of learning and engagement at CV Life, said: “The Lunt Roman Festival is an excellent opportunity for families to explore the incredible history of the site while getting involved in some unique and exciting fun and games with so much to see and do. It caps a jam-packed summer of activities at the Lunt Roman Fort and across our other CV Life venues including the Herbert Art Gallery and Coventry Transport Museum.

"For youngsters who love action-packed activities and inspiring displays, this is a great chance to take in everything this rare attraction just a few minutes from the city centre has to offer."
