A man has been charged with a series of offences after he is alleged to have driven into oncoming traffic in a bid to escape police. The incident took place at around 12.40pm on Monday (September 11) when police reportedly requested a black Audi to stop on Lawford Road in Rugby.

The driver allegedly made his way at speed towards the roundabout at the end of Lawford Road where he allegedly made a blind right turn onto a one-way road, allegedly passing several other vehicles. After allegedly driving against the flow of traffic, the Audi was involved in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested.

A bag of white powder was recovered at the site of arrest, along with a mobile phone, Warwickshire Police said. A black baseball bat was reportedly recovered from the Audi's back seat, police say.

Osirus Jones, 20, of Holbrook Road, Rugby, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a license, using a motor vehicle on a public road without third party insurance, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

He will appear at Warwick Crown Court on October 12.
