Above average temperatures are being forecast by the Met Office throughout parts of October. There are predictions that the UK could be hit by a balmy 24C eight-day Indian Summer.

BirminghamLive has reported that maps and models had pointed to a more prolonged period of heat in early October, according to Jim Dale, a meteorologist for British Weather Services. The Met Office has issued a forecast, from October 2 to October 11, which states: "This broadly changeable setup is likely to continue, with possibly some lengthier drier interludes between systems, particularly in the southeast."

The weather forecaster went on: "Towards the end of this period there is a possibility of a more widely settled spell developing, at least for a time, with temperatures likely to be above average overall, though still with some cool nights and morning fog patches."

For the period fro October 12 to October 26, it adds: "Within the more settled periods it is possible that northern parts will receive below average rainfall, with the south possibly receiving above average rainfall. Temperatures are more likely to be above average than below average overall, but with chilly nights in settled conditions."

Mr Dale said: "I am looking at Sunday in the south-east reaching 22C to 23C - but it's a short-lived affair. But still, it will be pleasant - it will be the calm after the storm. Into next week, there will be a north-south split - the south-east is not seeing very much in the way of wind and rain - just temperate temperatures until mid-October."

In its monthly outlook, the BBC, meanwhile, says it will be "drier" during the early stages of the tenth month of the year. "High pressure should become more dominant for a while through the second half of next week and potentially towards mid-October especially in southern and eastern areas, so some drier weather should ensue."

Sunny spells and drier weather is on the horizon for Coventry and Warwickshire in the short term, according to the latest local Met Office report. The online forecast says that tomorrow (September 29) could be the best day.
