The name of the company that will run Nuneaton town centre's new cinema has finally been revealed. After months of waiting, it has been confirmed that the Really Local Group will be in charge of the five-screen cinema on the former Abbey Street car park.

It will be the company's first venue outside of London and the South East and is set to bring a 'bespoke' offering to the town centre. As well as the five-screen cinema, it will also host live music and comedy.

It will be open throughout the day and will also have a community space as well as a coffee shop/bar along with pop-up shops for local food and produce. Preston Benson, Founder of Really Local Group, added: “We are delighted to be bringing a Really Local Group venue to Nuneaton. It is our mission to create cultural and community venues in the heart of local high streets, with and for the local community. As part of our ethos, we recruit directly from the communities we are serving and engage with the local arts clubs and community groups already in the area to embed ourselves in all things Nuneaton and bolster the local economy.

"Our venue will be a place for people to watch, eat, relax, work, drink and experience, bringing creativity and people back to the centre of town. We hope this new space will act as a positive catalyst for further transformation in the area and is a vital step in creating a new destination for Nuneaton and wider Warwickshire community."

The Really Local Group, is the second name to sign up to the Grayson Place development. It is already known that Hampton-by-Hilton will run the 145 bed hotel, which is also being built on the former Co-op car park.

'More than your usual high street cinema'

Nuneaton and Bedworth Council leader Kris Wilson hinted that the cinema could be open next year. He said: "The regeneration of Grayson Place delivers on the Council’s vision of breathing life into the town centre and creating a vibrant new destination for people to visit for multiple different reasons throughout the day. Working with Really Local Group on their first major project outside London and the South East demonstrates the scale of the council’s ambition to create a bustling town centre – paving the way for a wealth of business opportunities and additional housing development and infrastructure.

"More than your usual high street cinema, this space will be used throughout the day for co-working and events. It will be a natural meeting place to grab a coffee or drink and catch up with friends, or for community groups to use as they need.

"This will help rejuvenate Nuneaton’s high street and bring a sense of community back to the town centre. Their arrival, combined with the creation of a new Hampton by Hilton hotel, due to complete in 2024, will bring visitors and residents back to the heart of Nuneaton and bolster the economy."

The Grayson Place development is also set to play home to an inflatable park but it is not yet known who will run this. There are also plans for a new glass-fronted food hall where the heart of the former Co-op department store once stood.

There will also be a much-needed new multi-storey car park on the old Abbey Street car park, but no date has yet been given as to when construction will start. Yet it is known that its foundations have been laid as part of the hotel works on the site.
