Dozens of wannabe ‘Boro players tried to impress at an open trials event.

It has been revealed 41 hopefuls turned up for what was a unique trial at Nuneaton Borough Football Club yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, March 5.

In a bid to find new players and to raise cash, the ‘Boro held trials and asked anyone who wanted to try out to pay £50.

A total of 41 players turned up and, after costs were taken off, including match officials and lighting, it raised just under £1,500.

But it was not solely about cash, potential talent was also found.

A spokesperson for the Boro said that there were five players on the day who were asked to train with the first team tomorrow night.

“There is a good chance one or two of them will sign for us this season,”

“This was a great opportunity for us to see players from other clubs that we may not necessarily go and scout at.

“We have discovered players which could become part of the squad, which is fantastic. It was also a useful fund-raiser.”

The news comes as the club continues its battle to raise much-needed cash.

With a £31,000 HMRC bill to pay before the end of March as well as bailiffs and former staff and players to play, the club needs to find significant investment quick.

They had hoped to attract ten investors to provide £100,000 to see the club through until the end of the season and then put another £100,000 in for next season.

Manager, and acting chairman Jimmy Ginnelly

Coventry Live has been told that a ‘small group’  of investors are set to meet with acting chairman Jimmy Ginnelly on Monday.

In the meantime, a justgiving page to help save the club continues and donations have been made from across the town and further afield.
