Police are urging people to avoid a main road in Stratford as they deal with an ongoing incident. Bridge Street has been closed for several hours this morning (August 29).

This is due to an ongoing police incident. Warwickshire Police has posted on its page on Facebook that officers are dealing with a 'concern for welfare' for two men.

No further details have been provided about the incident, but the force has asked people to stay away from the area. The post reads: "for welfare incident involving two men. The incident started earlier this morning and remains ongoing.

"Bridge Street is closed to allow officers to deal with it. Please avoid the area if you can."

Traffic website inrix has reported that Bridge Street is closed in both directions. It says there is heavy traffic due to a police incident from Wood Street to Waterside.

Ambulance statement

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has confirmed that it has an ambulance on standby at the scene.

A WMAS spokesman said: "We were called to reports of concern for patients’ welfare on Bridge Street at 7.44am. We currently have one ambulance and a paramedic officer at the scene.!

The stand off between the police and the two men on the roof of M&S has been ongoing since 1am.
