Police have issued a statement on the death of man on the M6 which led to seven-hour closure. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed earlier that medics found the injured man, but nothing could be done to save his life.

Now a Warwickshire Police spokesman has told CoventryLive that officers say they are not treating the man's death as suspicious. The spokesman also confirmed that the victim, who has not been identified, was aged in his 40s.

It has also been confirmed that specialist officers are helping his next of kin. No details about the incident have been confirmed, other than it happened at just before 5am this morning (September 28).

It is understood that Warwickshire Police were alerted by colleagues from West Midlands Police. As a result the southbound section of motorway, between Bedworth and Coventry, was closed until just before noon.

It caused hours of tailbacks along the M6, heading towards Birmingham. Police initially guarded the scene until National Highways officers took over, before re-opening all of the lanes.

Delays continued to be felt along the motorway for more than an hour.
