They're the bane of most motorists' lives. Roadworks can come in all shapes and sizes, but they almost always have the same affect on your journeys.

Dozens of remedial works have already been carried out this year to address some of the city's most pressing pot hole problems and uneven surfaces. But many more are planned over the coming weeks and months, some resulting in the need for road closures

It's important to know where roadworks are in force to help you avoid congestion on the school run, morning commute or family outing. That's exactly why we've compiled this easy-to-follow list of roadworks starting in Coventry this week.

The following carriageway schemes are starting in the city over the next seven days. All will involve road closures bar the final (London Road) scheme which will result in a lane closure. Steer clear of these and you'll be on the right track.

Gayer Street - September 29 / carriageway patching works

Nunts Lane - October 2-6, 09:30-15:30 / carriageway patching works

London Road roundabout (leading to A46) - September 29-30, 19:00-05:00 / plane and patch works

Lynmouth Road - September 25-28, 07:30-16:00 / carriageway resurfacing

Light Lane - September 28, 09:00-15:30 / carriageway resurfacing

Pegmill Road - October 2-10, 09:00-15:30 / carriageway resurfacing

Shortley Road - October 2-3, 09:00-15:30 / carriageway resurfacing

London Road October 2-10, 09:00-15:30 carriageway resurfacing (lane closure)
