Two Sky Blues stars were special guests when potentially life-saving equipment was unveiled at one of Coventry's largest music venues. Callum O’Hare and Fabio Tavares took a break from training on Friday, September 22 to support the launch of a defibrillator and bleed kit at HMV Empire in Hertford Street.

The equipment was donated by the OurJay Foundation, set up in memory of inspirational teenager Jamie Rees, who died at University Hospital Coventry after suffering a cardiac arrest in Rugby in January 2022. The lack of a publicly accessible defibrillator close to where Jamie collapsed in Hillmorton severely restricted his survival chances.

The charity bearing Jamie's name has raised more than £100,000 for defibs to be installed, not just in Rugby but right across the country. A staggering 85 devices have so far been fitted outside schools, shops, pubs, clubs, warehouses and business premises up and down the country.

"To say that we are a little bit star-struck after today would be a huge understatement!" said Naomi Rees-Issitt, Jamie's mum and the driving force behind OurJay. "We’d like to thank Phil Rooney from HMV Empire Coventry for holding a great unveiling of OurJay's defibrillator and bleed kit.

"Coventry City players Callum O’Hare and Fabio Tavares came along and were so supportive of Jamie’s legacy and everything we are trying to achieve. They have all gone back to CCFC to work on getting our CPQR code on their kits!"

Callum and Fabio didn't just turn up for launch pictures - they signed a number of items which the charity intends to auction at a later date. For more about the charity and the good work it does, visit the website here.
