A suspected drug dealer is alleged to have driven into oncoming traffic moments before crashing during a terrifying police chase in a busy Warwickshire town centre. A motorist was pursued after he allegedly failed to stop for police on Lawford Road, Rugby.

He was said to have jumped a red light before turning right into Russelheim Way and attempting to driver the wrong way round the gyratory at around 12.30pm on Monday (11). The car then collided with another vehicle, Warwickshire Police said.

"A male abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee but was arrested," a spokesperson said. "Following the arrest, officers seized a baseball bat."

A 20-year-old man from Rugby was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. He was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
