A thug who had downed a bottle of vodka told police he could not remember trying to stab his victim five times. During police interview Shane Parker, aged 35, of Arden Street, Stratford told officers he couldn't remember trying to stab his victim in the stomach.

CCTV showed Parker making five separate attempts to stab the victim – a man in his 30s - during the incident in Birmingham Road. Fortunately the victim only suffered a minor cut to his chest.

Police found Parker in Arden Street before arresting him and seizing a knife. He pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

At Warwick Crown Court yesterday (September 6) he was jailed for two years. Speaking after the court case, PC Barney Tandy from Warwickshire Police Patrol Investigation Team said: "Parker armed himself with a knife with the intent to cause serious injury. This could easily have been so much more serious.

"I hope this conviction reiterates that Warwickshire Police will not tolerate violent crime and offenders will be dealt with robustly."
