Touching tributes have poured in for a college deputy head 'who had a smile and a hello for everyone'. The news about the death of South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) deputy principal loss of Tom Hamilton-Dick has shocked the local community.

The sudden loss of the 46-year-old, who collapsed and died on Friday (September 15), has left many heartbroken. Colleagues and students at NWSLC, which has campuses in Nuneaton and Hinckley, are still coming to terms with the loss, as are his friends and family.

The measure of the man has been shown in tributes posted on the Nuneaton News and Coventry Live pages on Facebook. Dozens of them were from, strangers, touched by the sad and sudden loss while others gave a glimpse into his life and the impact he had on others.

He became deputy principal at the local college in March 2020 after his career began as a film and television lecturer at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education in 2002.

FE Week has reported that he then became head of the media department at South Essex College and, in 2012, began a near eight-year stint in Nottingham where he was part of the senior team that championed the merge two of the city’s colleges to create Nottingham College, which is one of the biggest in the UK.

The dad-of-two was also a trustee of Skills and Education Group.
