Worcester Warriors director of rugby Steve Diamond thanked Wasps as they joined the rugby family that is showing its support on a disastrous day for the club.

Warriors have been suspended from all competitions by the Rugby Football Union after missing the deadline to show plans were in place to move forward from its financial crisis.

They were given until 5pm today (Monday) to provide the governing body with evidence that they possessed the required insurance, were able to meet payroll and have a "credible plan to take the club forward".

West Midlands rivals Wasps, who are impacted by its own off-the-field issues, shared a supportive message on its social media channels. It read: "Wasps and the entire rugby family stands as one with all the players, staff and supporters of Worcester Warriors."

This didn't escape the attention of Diamond, who responded by sharing the image along with the words '#TOGETHER Buzzing thank you Wasps'.

Wasps announced last Wednesday it had made the decision to file a notice of intention to appoint administrators in order to protect its interests following an impending threat of action from HMRC. The club reportedly has to pay £2 million to the tax man in a fortnight.

This is in addition to Wasps' ongoing issue refinancing the £35 million bond that helped finance their move north from London to the West Midlands.

Wasps themselves have been the recipients of goodwill messages, including one from Worcester, but it was one from Coventry that attracted plenty of interest at the weekend.

Their city neighbours wrote: "Upon hearing the recent news surrounding our neighbours, Wasps - Coventry Rugby has seen distasteful comments made across social media, which we will not stand for as a club. Rugby is a family, and we wish everyone at Wasps, including their suppoerters, players, coaches, backroom staff, commercial staff and partners all the best during a difficult time.

"We share the city of Coventry, and our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters within the rugby family."

While it wasn't met with universal approval, it was a move that was called 'outstanding', 'classy' and 'fantastic' by those responding on social media.
