A full list of symptoms have been revealed for the Covid Pirola strain which is now reportedly 'in most UK regions'. The highly mutated and immune strain is becoming the most dominant strain in the country, it has been revealed - although cases remain 'sporadic' at this stage.

It is now on the World Health Organization's watch-list, according to the Mirror, as it is difficult for experts to analyse it properly as there are more than 30 different mutations. Now, as the nation heads into autumn and winter, there are concerns that there will be a surge in cases of the BA.2.86 strain.

“BA.2.86 continues to transmit within the UK, with sporadic cases identified in most regions," said a spokesman for the UK's Health and Security Agency. With this in mind, a list of symptoms has been revealed for people to keep an eye out for.

What are the symptoms of the Covid Pirola strain?

  • Mild or severe fatigue
  • Sneezing
  • Headache
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat

Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Advisor of the UKHSA, urged all those who are eligible to make sure that they are full vaccinated. "While this is still very early data and more research is needed before we can be certain, it is encouraging to see an initial indication that BA.2.86 demonstrates similar levels of antibody escape compared to other variants circulating in the UK," she said.

"The available data is too limited to draw conclusions about the severity of the illness it causes, but there is so far no evidence to suggest that it is more likely to make people seriously ill than other Omicron variants in circulation. The autumn vaccination programme started this month, and this new data shows once again how important it is that the most vulnerable among us are fully vaccinated in order to receive the greatest possible protection. I urge everyone eligible to come forward for their next dose as soon as they are called."
