Nuneaton Borough FC's goalkeeper has been banned from from football for six months for breaching FA betting rules. Liam Castle is unable to play for the 'Boro until next year.

The English Football Association has confirmed to CoventryLive that the goalie has been given a six-month suspension from all football. It was imposed for breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

It has said that a full written reason for this case is set to be published in due course. In the meantime, Nuneaton Boro has issued a statement in regards to the official action.

In the post, which has been shared on its pages on social media, it claims that the incident dates back almost a decade ago prior to his time at the Liberty Way stadium. It states: " Liam is very disappointed and wanted to highlight that this was from over eight years ago, whilst being signed for a club, yet not in the match-day squads.

"The club are currently supporting Liam. The club and Liam would like to stress that he has been given the minimum fine and minimum ban for this particular offence."

The goalie joined the 'Boro in July 2022 and has a contract until 2024.
