Tributes have been paid to a 'one-of-a-kind' dad-of-three who died on the M6 in Coventry. Royston Smith 'lost his fight with mental health' on Thursday (September 28).

Paramedics were called to the M6 following reports of an incident at around 5am. Royston was found critically injured and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Wife Cherish Smith, from Aldermans Green, described her husband as 'amazing' and said he had the 'biggest heart.' A fundraiser has been launched to help support the family following the tragic events that unfolded on Thursday.

Speaking to CoventryLive, Cherish said: “Royston had the biggest heart, he would do anything for anyone and he would always act the clown just to make everyone smile. He very bravely battled with his mental health for a very long time but unfortunately, he chose to end his fight on Thursday.”

She added: “He was the best dad to his three kids, Aurora, Tobias and Delilah. I could not have wished for a better person to raise a family with, we made such a good team and had the most fun adventures.

“He was loved and adored by everyone he met; if love was enough, he would still be here. He truly was one of a kind.”

“I am thinking of you all, massive love and hugs to the family, and the bambinos. You are not alone, we are right beside you.”

Tracey Lydon wrote: “Royston, I am sad and devastated for your Cher and your three beautiful kids, I just wish you had stayed for them.”
